would-be-goods would-be-goods would-be-goods

2005 the london life continues..... chickfactor 16 came out (online only) in feb 05. gail took author pics for her erudite and dashing friend travis elborough, whose routemaster book the bus we loved was just everywhere here in london this year. she also took photos of the clientele for their new album and the shellac sisters, a group of lady DJs who use gramophones and have exquisite taste in vintage frocks and crackly 78s. and travelled a bit to places like lisbon and sintra to take some pics.

2004 in february gail took some lovely photos for the new would-be-goods album, the morning after (matinee recordings). inspired by the old world glamour and matching penguin suits of german vocal group the comedian harmonists, the photos feature the wbgs in the glorious magic hour light of london in winter. the result is pure 1920s euro decadence. gail has also contributed a photograph for the new clientele single on unpopular records. in october she travelled to copenhagen, stockholm, berlin, dublin, and london with the magnetic fields and the real tuesday weld. she finished the year by covering the chapman brothers-curated all tomorrow's parties festival called the nightmare before christmas for modern painters magazine and documenting chickfactor's own 'gala papillons' fest.

2003 gail lived in new york for the first half of the year. she did an author photo for the fabulous peter straub's new book, and continued shooting teengirls for ellegirl. she moved to london in july 03 and has been documenting her local city farm and working on a series of portraits of her flatmate/muse, lupe núñez-fernández. she hosted l'age d'or de la pop at london's bush hall in december, where she helped stage another fashion show of andrea loest's creations. there are some color-drenched images from that in portraits and events, as well as chickfactor.com.

2002 in nyc, gail has been freelancing as photographer, editor, and writer. she regularly shoots teenagers for ellegirl, contributed magnetic fields pics to playbill, hx, and pulse, and shot flare. in late 02, chickfactor.com finally launched! chickfactor's label enchanté released a compilation compact disc titled all's fair in love and...chickfactor. and chickfactor 15 was published, featuring lovely new portraits of solex, the aislers set, poundsign, the naysayer, nina nastasia, the places, saturday people, a girl called eddy, bertrand burgalat, and tons more. chickfactor also celebrated its ten-year anniversary this autumn with black + white balls in london, new york, and washington, d.c.

2001 she shot suzanne vega for a rockpile cover story. earlier this year, gaillived in london, where she took photos of the lovely jessica arah, of the legendary would-be-goods. her glamorous photos of jessica appear on the cover of the would-be-goods' album, brief lives, and various other seven-inches, EPs, and press kit. she also photographed london luminaries from broadcast, goldfrapp, plone, pipas, the pines, the real tuesday weld, peter paphides, stephen duffy, and many others while there.

2000 in december gail photographed the lanky ex-pavement frontman stephen malkmus for another magazine. in november she went on the magnetic fields' extremely decadent european tour to take photos and digital video. in october gail's first solo exhibition took place at the ubersexy manhattan record shop other music, featuring famous chickfactor personalities like robert forster and belle & sebastian alongside new yorkies like stephin merritt, claudia gonson, yo la tengo, cat power, containe, dudley klute, and others. in august gail's very first exhibition was part of a group art show at ladyfest 2000 (in olympia, wa.), an amazing, inspiring art explosion packed with cool chicks.
